A little about Joseph Pilates, the creator of this method of fitness with the purpose of conditioning both the mind & body. He named this work "Contrology". Joe was born near Düsseldorf, Germany in 1880, at 14 he was modeling for anatomy books. His father is believed to have been a gymnast, and his mother a naturopath. His exercises included abdominal work, leg and arm work, balancing exercises, and spinal movements in all planes: flexion, extension, side bending, and rotation, as they were based on the German gymnastics Joe learned as a child. It is said that he taught his method to others during WWII at an internment camp and thus they survived the 1918 flu pandemic due to their good physical shape. This work has now since been known as "pilates".
"your mind controls the body". Joseph H. Pilates
